EMS Training

EMS stands for “Electro Muscular Stimulation”. It is a full body training system that utilizes the latest technology to deliver electrical impulse currents to train your muscle groups. EMS is safe as the electric impulses are very much alike to the bioelectric that activates the muscles generally – only stronger – and can be adjusted accordingly to the individual’s desire.

In conventional training the central nervous system internally stimulates the muscles with electrical impulses for it to contract the muscles. In EMS training electrical impulses stimulates the muscles externally. There is no difference to the muscle whether the electric stimuli resulted from the central nervous system or from the electrodes: the muscle reacts with a contraction.

In EMS training, all muscle groups can be activated together by means of an electrode system. Agonist and antagonist are stimulated at the same time in which specific exercise positions enhance the contraction of the voluntary fixed muscles. Muscle contractions stimulated by EMS can be more intense compared to those stimulated in traditional strength training and it easily reaches deep muscle tissue.

For all ages and fitness levels

EMS is suitable for all age groups and fitness levels. The training session is joint friendly, impact free and lasts for only 20 minutes each time. Individuals who are pregnant or have a pacemaker are not allowed to train at Bodytec Studios. If you are unsure on whether EMS training is suitable for you, please consult your doctor to obtain medical approval before starting with EMS training. Most people can use EMS training but if you have the below particular health conditions, check with your doctor before you commence training:

  • Tumours
  • Diabetes mellitus
  • Advanced arteriosclerosis
  • Fever, acute bacterial or viral infections
  • Neurological disorders (epilepsy, multiple sclerosis)

Is it safe?

The Bodytec system is able to safely control the intensity of the impulses, making your training session either an intense full body workout, or a supplementary training tool for your sport, or as a rehabilitative tool. Your Bodytec personal trainer will be with you for the full 20 minute session, making it very safe and personalized.

Does EMS training hurt?

Not at all. The impulse currents delivered to your muscles groups are in the micro-Ampere (mA) area, which is completely safe for the human body. Each Bodytec Training Session is controlled and monitored by your Bodytec Personal Trainer for the full 20 minutes to ensure you have a safe and effective workout.

Will I lose weight with EMS training?

Yes, EMS training does burn fat. However, be careful to differentiate this from losing weight – the numbers on the scale measure anything from water, muscle to fat loss. Your ideal goal would be to lose fat and gain muscle. And the more muscle you gain, the more calories you burn at rest, during exercise, and afterwards during the recovery period. Your Bodytec personal trainer will be able to guide you every step of the way, no matter what your goals are.

Why is EMS training so effective?

During EMS training, 90% of your muscles are activated simultaneously with each contraction and the muscle contractions are stronger and more intense than a voluntary exertion can do alone. Compared to conventional weight training, deeper muscle groups are activated which lead to better intra and inter muscular coordination. Your Bodytec personal trainer also controls the intensity of each impulse current delivered to specific muscle groups in your body, making it possible to target your problem areas, sculpt your body and increase your strength in areas that you choose to focus on.
